The mid-coast region of
Maine offers many wonderful places to see. Below is just a list of
some of the things that you can do during your visit to The Topsider.
|
| Places To See |
-
Maine Maritime Muesum - This is
one of the best maritime muesems in the world. Very rich in the history
of Bath. They also offer boating tours down the Kennebec River and
to Seguin Island Lighthouse.
|
-
Bath Iron Works - The last of the numerous
shipbuilding companies that use to line the shores of Bath. Although
not open to the public for tours it does open for launchings of the Navy
destroyers they build.
|
-
Seguin Island Lighthouse-
The lighthouse you can see furthest out from The Topsider. Loaded
with old folklore, this is a wonderful lighthouse to see. I recommend
that you check the Maine Maritime Muesem for tour dates.
|
-
Doubling Point Lighthouse -
Located on the Kennebec River in Arrowsic, this is a wonderful lighthouse
to see. You can see the importance this lighthouse plays for ships
navigating this dangerous part of the river.
|
-
Naval Air Station Brunswick - The
eastern most Naval Air Station in the country. They are open daily
for tours and offer the demonstration team of the Blue Angels every other
year.
|
-
Reid State Park
- Located up the road from The Topsider, this is a wonderful beach to take
the family. A snack bar and showers are provided, along with picnic
areas.
|
-
Popham Beach State
Park - Located straight across the river from The Topsider, Popham
Beach offers a full state park plus the upper part of the beach, with historic
Fort Popham and Fort Baldwin.
|
-
L. L. Bean - I am sure that everybody
is familiar with the icon of Maine. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week, 365 days a year. L. L. Bean is about 32 miles from The Topsider.
|
-
Maine State Prison
Showroom - I know that it sounds odd to go to a prison on vacation,
but this prison showcases and sells work of the inmates at unbelievable
prices. Hand crafted woodwork at a portion of other's prices.
